Member for Gender Equality, Students’ Representative Council, March 2017-April 2018
Representative role with flexible remit, sitting on both the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the Equal Opportunities Committee (Equal Ops).
Accomplishments:
– Created a Sexual Health and Safety Guide collating the university’s sexual misconduct policy with other information from sources like the Fife Rape and Sexual Assault Centre, which was completed in August 2017, ready for Freshers Week 2017 (see link below).
– Wrote the accommodation and health sections for a Wellbeing/Support portal for the Your Union website, which launched as the Help Hub in May 2018, and wrote the drug information of the personal safety section. Sections for physical health and personal safety were heavily edited, but the accommodation section strongly reflects the work that I wrote in September 2017.
– Helped advertise and create media for a new sexual defence program organised by the University of St Andrews Jiu Jitsu Club.
– As part of the Equal Ops Committee, helped organise events in collaboration with student societies for Pangea, a festival and project celebrating the cultural diversity within St Andrews.
– Worked in collaboration with the following societies: Women for Women International, Feminist Society of St Andrews, For Her, Her Choice, Sexpression, and HeforSheSt Andrews, on an International Women’s Day drop-in speaker, performance, and mood cafe event. The cover photo, event page designs, and program I made for the event are attached below. Arranged for our current principal, Professor Sally Mapstone, Emily Yates, from Enhance the UK, and Dr. Katie Garner, the Equality Representative for the School of English to speak at the event, along with students from various societies, committees, and groups to perform and speak at the event on topics they are passionate about!
Post-term, the International Women’s Day event I organised was recognised in the 3 April 2018 edition of the Your Union Newsletter as making the Equal Opportunities Committee the society/subcommittee of the month.
